My poster depicts a TV show promotional poster style design, and presents imagery of a spinning wheel (found on gameshows) that determines what group of people are bad and should be the focus of blame next. This is depicted by the frowning face emoji above the selector at the top of the spinning wheel, and the different colour panels that represent different groups of people that are targeted by blame, all featuring a thumbs down icon on them.
The aim of this poster is to make people aware with the reality of how, with any problem that happens with the world or with society, something or someone is always instantly blamed for doing something, or saying something, or having a differing opinion etc., often without any thought, and it can be hard to tell in advance who the blame will be targeted at. This is portrayed in the poster with the use of the spinning wheel, a device that randomly decides a singular variable out of a number of different variables, which in this case are the different groups of people that are targeted by blame. Each variable is coloured differently to illustrate each different group, but they all have a thumb’s down icon on them, depicting that no matter which one gets selected they will still be deemed ‘bad’ or ‘wrong’. The spinning wheel selector has a frowning face above it, which portrays that the spinning wheel’s purpose is to select what is going to be blamed and frowned upon next. I visually stylised the frowning face and thumbs down icons like emojis to represent how often the blame and divide take place online, through web articles, social media platforms, forum websites and video sharing/streaming websites, especially with younger generations.
Groups of people that are targets of blame that would be featured on the spinning wheel include movements, individuals, communities, authority figures, people of class and/or power, leaders, influencers, minorities, people of media culture, celebrities, creators, and even specific demographics of people like ethnicities and genders.
This theme for my poster design is a current major problem that is barely recognized due to nearly everybody of this current time blaming something for a problem that either directly affects or upsets themselves, or clashes with their personal opinions on the matter, and none of these people learning to see these situations in an alternative and non-biased light. These groups often think they are supporting and acting towards a cause that’s seen as good, kind and helpful for people, but in reality that cause may be doing more harm than good, or the cause’s meaning may even be completely false. The people who are in these groups are completely blind to this since they think their opinions are good, and that anybody who opposes their ‘good’ intentions and beliefs are seen as evil. Thus, no progression to come to a non-biased solution can be made, and the wars between these many groups and individuals will never conclude.
Creating this poster didn’t prove too difficult of a task as I already had a clear mental image of how tv show posters are designed and the issues it aims to target, and the software I used (Clip Studio Paint) enabled me to create my poster exactly with ease. I believe I am satisfied with how my poster responds to the issue it targeted too.
