My final production piece will consist of a graphic novel produced digitally and presented with an interactive element. While I prefer physical media (for graphic novels I prefer paper books) I understand the importance and potentiality of digital and online visual media. There are so many possibilities to embed creative presentation into a visual novel experience through technology. Through this project, I would like to explore my take on digital interactivity for graphic novels.


Each panel upon each of the graphic novel’s pages will be illustrated digitally using a Surface Pro device and illustration software Clip Studio Paint. These pages will then be added to a series of artboards within Adobe XD. Each collection of artboards/pages for different segments/mini-stories will be assembled into a menu system, which will be used to navigate through the segments in the order the viewer chooses. This intends to provide a non-linear experience to the viewer, as I intend for the segments to be ambiguous in chronological timing to allow them to be viewed in any order. This system is designed to test the reader on how they interpret the order of the story. It is also supposed to metaphorically represent how each part of this part of my life seems like an aimless blur, where I cannot recall which events happened when, and how there is no beginning and still no end to this currently occurring story. I was originally intending on using Twine as the basis of my final product, however, I personally find Adobe XD to be much simpler to use as it uses visuals rather than text and code. Additionally, the way Adobe XD works is more suited to the kind of experience I wish to create.
