Backstory/description:
Val’s origin is mostly unknown, however, it has been speculated that they came from an alternate dimension. They are not human but have a humanoid physical form, therefore they have no gender. They like to hop between and through dimensions by randomly generating into different locations whenever they feel like it.

Unfortunately, Val comes across as very creepy and unnerving in the way they look, they act, and their presence. When they’re nearby they are known to give others a feeling of horror and dread, causing one to get a bad feeling in their stomach. Conversing with them is impossible due to their overpowering sense of confidence, power and dominance, and their lack of speech. The only sounds they make are inhuman noises and inaudible screeches.

They are a mass murderer who does what they do out of their own interest, unlike a hired assassin. They use weapons made of concentrated light formed from the band on their wrist to murder people. Who is murdered cannot be predicted, but it certainly isn’t simply everyone who exists – only specific people are targeted, but no pattern can be figured out. It is speculated they do this simply because it makes them happy. It is impossible to escape Val’s swift murderous bouts, giving them a 100% murder success rate.

There is nothing they particularly hate, however. They actually think the world, space and nature are very beautiful, especially the colours that flow through the universe. Without this, they simply wouldn’t be able to go on their life or do what they do. It is often mistaken they are evil when it couldn’t be further from the truth, as their morals and ethics do not coincide with that of a human’s.

Even though Val has no gender, they don’t mind what pronouns people use when referring to them because they simply do not care to utilise the language of an inferior race, but the pronouns others use when referring to Val are they/them.

Other hobbies of Val include, but are not limited to;
– Biting off the ears of strangers
– Collecting used plasters
– Watching mortals try to escape
– Bathing in cement
– Cuddling and petting frogs, toads and other amphibia

Their favourite food is glass and steel ball-bearings. They find them delicious and nutritious. Their favourite beverage is flour and hot sauce in a cup.

Visual Composition:

Body and overall visual style:
Val’s stylized visual design and aesthetic are meant to be striking and provoke a sense of fun with the way their body and limbs are structured. The proportions of the head, limbs and facial features are greatly enlarged and exaggerated for a cartoony style body reminiscent of characters from media franchises such as ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ and ‘Super Mario’, with a blend of my own original design aesthetic. Additionally, their limbs have no bend/crease clarification or muscle definition to give them a flexible and action-figure feel, fitting adjacently with their artificiality and playful personality.

Head:
I gave Val glaring eyes, spider-like eyelashes, a creepy smile, scrunched up eyebrows, a shaved head and multiple ear piercings to emphasize them being a dangerous and spontaneous being with no care for an approachable demeanour or general standards of public appearance, and that they are someone who shouldn’t be messed with.

Outfit:
Their clothes were designed to give the feel of a character who is not human but is trying to pass as one, with their outfit consisting of an 80s style jacket, denim shorts with suspenders, and cyber industrial boots – all pieces of clothing that are technically human but aren’t generally worn together naturally by people of the present day, making them look out of place and poser-y.

Accessories:
All of Val’s weapons are summoned from their primary accessory, their wristband on their right wrist. From the embedded ‘V’ shaped crystal on the band, any weapon can be made from concentrated solid light, including swords, throwing stars, bows and arrows, and even guns, with a bladed ‘V’ shaped boomerang being Val’s trademark murder tool. The only other physical accessories they use are two spiked knuckledusters, one on each hand. I included the knuckledusters to indicate to the viewer they are a dangerous fighter without having to have a concentrated light weapon permanently visible, as this would not happen narrative-wise.

Poses/demeanour:
The main stance Val uses is standing in a sturdy, overpowering and strong energy-exerting demeanour as if they’re prepared to knock down anything that comes their way. The other poses Val pulls are all quite flexible, balanced and confident – they’re prepared and ready to go. These two demeanours together portray a character who is capable, durable and energetic – perfect for someone characterized as a villain.

Colours:
I wanted to use a consistent colour palette throughout Val’s design, as using only a small number of colours helps with realising a character’s unique identity and their recognizability as an original character. Being inspired by the music artist Prince’s iconic ‘Purple Rain’ trench coat, I coloured Val’s jacket with a similar purple hue. This lead to me using the colours of the non-binary flag as the character’s main palette, additionally using a prominent yellow for the outfit and eyes, black for their jet-black eyelashes and eye makeup, and shades of light grey in place of white for the other parts of the body and clothes. Using the non-binary flag as the basis of my colour palette was purposeful as it is associated with the character potentially being non-binary themselves.
