Leadership and Teamwork

Within our team each member had a specifically assigned workload that was deduced based on each member’s specific unique talents. This was assigned by the team leader, Jasmine, who had been selected as the leader of the group prior to the project beginning. Jasmine’s role as team leader consisted of setting up the online communication channel via Discord, communicating with the other team members, and keeping track of work that had been done and needed to be completed.

Throughout this project none of the team members ever felt like there was a divide or hierarchy between members based on role or importance to the project. In the end each member had an equal role, and Jasmine’s role as team leader mostly counted when establishing the foundation of the project. This is especially true when taking into account things like me setting up the Trello – each team member felt on the same level and had the same amount of authority in the project. This actually allowed us all to have an equal say in what the project should consist of, which in turn allowed the project to be much more creative, diverse and unique.

Admittedly, workload did feel rather private and one-handed when it came to producing assets and presentation content, but as each of us preferred to work independently anyways we always felt comfortable with this method of working. The work cycle mostly consisted of us discussing through Discord and in-person meet-ups during lectures ideas and what kind of pieces of work we needed to produce, which would then lead to each of us going away completely independently to produce said work, and then communicating again after a period of time to evaluate production and what should happen next. This in turn allowed a comfy and relaxed work environment, however truthfully it did enable the project to turn sloppy and unfocused, which could have been avoided with a stronger routine and more frequent communication. Regardless of this, if one team member was ever unsure with what to do or what was going on, the others would always try to help when present.
